Near the Old Port and constituting an extension of the Town Hall, the new Espace Villeneuve Bargemon is located in the heart of the Marseillaise City, between history and modernity. It is a stone's throw from the old Panier district, the Vielle Charité and several historical monuments including the Maison Diamantée, the Hôtel de Cabre - the oldest residence in the city - the Hôtel Dieu, the Musée des Docks Romains but also the whole Tourette work of the contemporary architect François Pouillon.

The City of Marseille having had the need for a new more modern and more functional City Council room, and following several unfinished projects, it was finally the architect Franck Hammoutène who in 2005 designed the Espace Villeneuve Bargemon by arranging it under the square of the same name.

This creation recognized as emblematic of his style with a stripped-down, subtle and refined faith, will be worth to him the national price of architecture: the square of Silver 2006.
