The first sign of the restaurant was Poccardi, early century famous restaurant.
The property then became known as "The Marriage of Jeannette," comic opera in one act by Victor Massé, who created 1853 was played hundreds of times as a curtain raiser, dining Favart on the other side of the street.
On the day of his wedding to Janet, Jean fled. The air of romance which Jeannette sings in mending the torn clothes of John, "Run my needle into the wool" has remained popular.
The couple finally reconcile the famous aria of the nightingale, so named because the flute mimics the song of the bird:
"Come, get a little closer, I feel my heart tremble with ease".
